Forest tinged England memories - part iii: Stuart Pearce achieves redemption

With the international break upon us, it seems an appropriate time to retreat into the comfort of nostalgia and recall the days when the national team regularly called upon Nottingham Forest to lend them some players.

You know what’s coming. Frankly, there’s not much else to say about it since the images are engrained into the eyes of anyone who was breathing in the summer of 1996.

The whole nation was proud of him but none more so than us Forest fans. He was ours and those idiots who had pointed their finger at him for missing that penalty against West Germany six years previously could sit down and shut up. Everyone finally realised what all of us had known since 1985: Stuart Pearce was a hero.
